The
Differences
between
The Recceived Bible Society edition of the Textus Receptus ("TR")
and the Scrivener
"TR"
Difference
Summary: Since first published by Erasmus
in 1516, the Textus Receptus (“TR”) has been tried, tested, proved and refined
even until today – 500 years later, resulting in a better brightness. In the RBS
edition of the “TR”, there are 6 places (Luke 3:36, 1Co 16:22, John 1:28, 1John 2:23, 1John 3:16, and Rev 16:5) and 13 places in ending verses of N.T Epistles
differing from Scrivener’s “TR” and documented here. The RBS TR is a today’s
TR and the unerlining Greek text for all “Received Bible” translations produced
by the Received Bible Society.

Comments:
|
This Cainan is not mentioned by Moses in (Genesis 11:12) nor has
he ever appeared in any Hebrew copy of the Old Testament, nor in the
Samaritan version, nor in the Targum; nor is he mentioned by Josephus, nor in
(1 Chronicles 1:24) where the genealogy is repeated; nor is it in Beza's most
ancient Greek copy of Luke: it indeed stands in the present copies of the
Septuagint, but was not originally there; and therefore could not be taken by
Luke from thence, but seems to be owing to some early negligent transcriber
of Luke's Gospel, and since put into the Septuagint to give it authority: I say
“early”, because it is in many Greek copies, and in the Vulgate Latin, and
all the Oriental versions, even in the Syriac, the oldest of them; but ought
not to stand neither in the text, nor in any version: for certain it is,
there never was such a Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, for Salah was his son;
and with him the next words should be connected, which was the son of
Arphaxad;
(Genesis 11:12,13) which
was the son of Sem,
or Shem, (Genesis 11:10,11) which was the son of Noe, or Noah, (Genesis 5:32)
which was
the son…

Origen’s Commentary on John’s Gospel (Book VI.24):
|
Origen
(A.D. 185-254) confessed of his desire for a modification of “Bethany” to “Bethabara”, even though there was almost no textual evidence in support of
this change among all available Greek texts in 3rd century. His
reasoning was that he, himself, could not locate “Bethany beyond Jordan”, but rather he heard third hand about “Bethabara” as a possible location for John’s
baptizing . Textual evidence and internal evidence of John’s Gospel favors “Bethany beyond Jordan”. It could be a town East of the Jordan, across from Aenon and
Salim, near the border of Decapolis and Perea.

This change reflects both
KTR and ERB.
